I added both dresses to my registry. From what I see on the web site, they both look historically accurate. What a joy, after the blunders of some of the newer Sam and Nellie items.

I like Nellie's. I think she keeps stealing Felicity's shoes. The shoes that come w/ the outfit look like the snappy bow shoes with a pink bow to me.

Samantha's I don't like very much. Not because of the double cross over, which is fine, but because I hoped it would have red flowers and trim like on the cover of the book. The actual outfit is almost all white, which I find too bland.

I [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img] love [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img] both the new outfits! Samantha and Nellie will have to wear them for the big Valentine Party I'm throwing for the dolls.

AG calls them "spring" outfits, promoting them with Valentine's Day. But I've always placed Valentine's Day in Winter, not spring.

Remember the Valentine Exchange you all signed up for? I have a long list of names that I'll be contacting soon to remind you to make Valentines.

Actually, for many Pagans, February IS when Spring begins (Feb. 2).

The Pagan (Celtic) calendar runs like this:

The year and Winter begin on November 1st, the day after Samhain (Hallowe'en). Yule or Winter Solstice falls on December 21 - 23 (varies from year to year, also called Midwinter Night).

Spring begins on Imbolc, February 2nd, Ostara occurs on the Vernal Equinox (March 21 - 23).
(Ostara is the name from which we get Easter.)

Summer begins with Beltane on April 31st, with Midsummer's Night/Litha/Summer Solstice (June 21-23).

Fall begins with Lammas on August 2, with Mabon (Autumnal Equinox) on September 21 - 23.

The year ends with Samhain (pronounced 'Sow-en' or 'Sov-an') on October 31st.

So AG isn't too far off considering the Valentine's dresses Spring Dresses. And Valentines Day falls on an old Roman holiday known as the Lupercalia...

I just saw them on the website. They're both very pretty, but I like Nellie's better. I'm not a big fan of those strap things in the front of Samantha's dress.

Oh, my...I certainly hope that was not AG's thinking when they decied to call it a Spring Outfit. If they turned pagan I think I would have to sell all my things and stop buying from them all together

Angry

Didn't mean to spark a religious debate -- just a look at a different historical calendar. Every culture tends to have a different way of perceiving the year...

Heck, for the ancient Greeks the 'barren' (i.e. winter) part of the year was from June through September. Their growing season was September to May, because it was too hot for anything to grow from June through August.

Trying to give cultural differences not religious ones --
